MASABA History

buildfront

Harold Higman, Sr. founded Higman Sand and Gravel in 1939. Since equipment was hard to come by at the time, he had to be innovative in his approach, and consequently, designed much of his own equipment. Harold Higman, Jr. formed MASABA in 1962 and incorporating what he had learned from his father, began building and selling equipment tough enough to withstand the everyday abuse of mining environments. Harold's son, Jerad took over MASABA in 1999. Having grown up working side-by-side with his father, he learned what it takes to build equipment that not only works, but lasts.

Jerad's educational and professional background had been Mechanical Engineering before returning to MASABA. Since taking over, Jerad has been able to build a talented Engineering department that has been able to work closely with our customers to develop a full assortment of aggregates processing equipment. This wide range of Portable Crushing, Screening, & Wash Plants as well as a complete line of Conveyors, Surge Bins, & Feeder Hoppers are all designed and manufactured to endure in the most demanding environments. This full product line has been very well received allowing MASABA to grow rapidly within the industry. Customers have not only appreciated the initial design of our equipment, but more importantly our ability to react to customization needs which allows producers to get the most out of their equipment investment.

In October of 2005, MASABA expanded it's facility by building a 100,000 square foot facility in Vermillion, South Dakota. The facility was designed with state-of-the-art equipment for both engineering as well as all facets of manufacturing and final assembly. It has enabled MASABA to better serve our customers by allowing a wider range of manufacturing options as well as additional capacity to keep lead times minimized. MASABA is very fortunate to have a solid workforce that truly cares about the equipment it produces and more importantly the customers that use them.

In July of 2007, MASABA again announced plans to expand its engineering and manufacturing facilities with a 60,000 square foot expansion. This newly enhanced facility will allow MASABA to better fulfill existing demands of our customers as well as allow MASABA to expand its product lines to produce additional lines of equipment.

MASABA truly would like to thank all of our customers for allowing us the ability to serve them. We will make every effort to fulfill their needs not only today, but in the future as well.
